In my latest travel vlog, Derek and I continued our day-trip to the Isle of Wight!
After we left Osborne House, we next headed to the Needles Landmark Attraction. We weaved our way through some carnival crowds (albeit they were much smaller crowds than we’d likely have found in the summertime!), and got a peek at the Needles – a series of natural chalk formations jutting out of the sea on the western-most tip of the island. We Plus, we were able to see the multi-color sand cliffs from the rocky beach! In high season, you can catch a small boat from the pier to see the Needles closer up.
We had decided to save money and take the stairs down to the beach instead of the chairlift, and we were so glad we made that decision! It was so windy that we unfortunately heard a couple folks scream from the lift above!
We next drove down the road to St. Catherine’s Oratory and climbed the endless hill to check out the beautiful medieval lighthouse – while avoiding countless cow patties along the way. Thank goodness we brought the right shoes!
We finished our day with a drive back to the north side of the island with a rainbow following us the whole time! Once in the lovely city of Ryde, we labored unsuccessfully to track down a sit-down dinner, so we wound up eating Chinese takeaway – make sure you book a reservation when you visit IoW!
Since we were running ahead on timing, we went to the ferry terminal early to hopefully eat in our car as we waited. But to our surprise, the ferry operators told us to simply jump on an earlier one, so we were able to get back to Portsmouth AND avoid eating in our car! Instead, we grabbed a table in the VERY EMPTY lounge on the ship.
Hope you enjoy watching this vlog! Happy travels!

[Filmed October 10, 2020] PLEASE NOTE: The Isle of Wight was in Tier 1 at the time this video was filmed, which meant there were no restrictions on travel apart from not traveling to other UK areas that were in higher tiers. We had already completed our two-week travel quarantine in strict accordance with UK govt rules, and we stringently practiced hands-face-space safety precautions.
With that, the UK is in a lockdown on the date this video is being released. As a result, some activities that you will watch us do are not currently possible, and we are not promoting that you do them until they are deemed safe in the future.
