Today’s video is the second in a series that I shot while I was in London and Paris in November of 2018. Throughout the episode, I review the non-liquid makeup essentials that I packed in my carry on bag. Specifically, I only focused on the items needed for simple, classic, and long-wearing daytime and night time looks.
Trip after trip, the importance of packing a light makeup bag continues to be instilled in me. I feel it’s a bit of an art form, because it can be an exercise in understanding your true self.
TSA prohibits over-packing liquid makeup, so I’ve narrowed down my glosses and war paints to a minimum. That said, I always make sure to have a few different color options so I can still create a sense of choice. Since makeup is a personal expression, and we seek to let loose on vacation, I think it’s important not to overly limit your creativity.
Thus, I feel it’s important to find a balance when packing your makeup.
Over the years, I’ve done a lot of research on “makeup packing hacks” as well as watched many videos about what makeup people bring in their luggage. That said, I feel that makeup may be too personal to create packing rules that fit every woman. Instead, I focus today on suggestions based on what works for me. Every woman needs to find what feels true to her.
What is true to me? I typically do not venture very far away from natural-colored eyeshadows. I also tend to wear black eyeliner more than most women, which includes daytime use. I enjoy the idea of natural makeup while accenting one key feature – a trick I’ve learned from my college days working in the makeup industry, books I’ve read by industry tastemakers such as Bobbi Brown, and Youtube videos I’ve watched by women who share my taste. I’ve put in the work to understand what makes me feel comfortable, and feel like me!
This transcends to being able to pack relatively light despite being a self-proclaimed “product girl.” I know my favorites, which are the staples of my makeup bag. I don’t deviate from them – or add to them – when I travel. For me, the creative opportunity during a trip centers around lip color, so I bring several lipsticks and glosses to add variety. Voila! My perfect travel makeup bag. I hope this thinking can help you craft something just as personalized!
Below I have listed all of the makeup products I mention in the video. As I said in the audio, I think it would be possible to remove several of the eyeliners and lipliners next time in order to further streamline (despite being fun to have!)
